Get Over It!

“Adversity is a fact of life. It can’t be controlled. What we can control is how we react to it.” ~ Unknown

By Diane Forrest

I have this way of getting really mad about something - screaming about it..then forgetting about it.  This is not an endearing trait to my family.  My husband would be upset bout my yelling, and would brood about it for several days.  If he had a problem, or something angered him, he would sit in silence, letting it eat away at him, until I finally drug it out of him.  He wouldn't forget it, and bring it up all the time.  This is the time I would want to say, forget about it...get over it, and move on. But he had a hard time letting things go.
He is not the only one who kept rehashing things.  Jeff Goldblatt was the same way.  That is why he came up with today's "holiday".  Today is Get Over It Day.  This idea was conceive because it was taking him longer than he thought it should to get over the break up of a girlfriend. Today is the day to finally get over that ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend, those stressful school- or work-related issues, any fears, insecurities, embarrassing moments, bad relationships, etc.  If you're not sure what YOU have to get over, just ask your friends what they're tired of hearing you complain about.
Jeff Goldblatt, the creator of Get Over It Day, has created a few hotlines to help you:
  • The “It Could Always Suck More” Hotline – Call: 401-992-4050
  • The “Get Over It” Hotline – Call: 267-436-5063
  • The “Get Over It Day” Explanation Hotline – Call: 267-350-8967

The band "The Eagles" also have a song entitled "Get over it"  an excerpt from the lyrics are:
“I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin' "Don't blame me"
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin' sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma's too thin; your daddy's too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin' and cryin' and pitchin' a fit
Get over it, get over it “

Some things take more time to get over, such as a loss of a loved one, break up of a  marriage, financial problems and things like that, but one thing to think about is, don't sweat the small stuff, and...it's all small stuff!
